Partnership

For the sustainable development to be achieved, UR has established partnership with different national and international organisations among which are :

• Sida/Sarec : cooperation was signed in December of 2006 for 4 years valued at US$ 15 Million and focusing on staff training, ICT development and capacity building in research,

• NUFFIC : support for Masters Programmes and research development since 2004-2008 valued at Euro 6Million. Continued support needed beyond 2008

• CIUF : this partnership supports capacity building of the four science faculties (Agriculture, Applied science, Medicine and Science) for the period 2004-2008 valued at 500,000 Euros per year. An application has been submitted for the 2009-2012 project cycle valued at 500,000 Euros per year.

• Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC) : Support to Build Laboratories for the Science faculties and a clinical laboratory for the University Teaching Hospital Butare valued at EU 5M.

• VRIL : Capacity building support in the faculty of Medicine for the period 2007-2010 valued at 308,184 Euros aimed at three PhD academic staff trainees, research equipment and research publications

• University of Colorado : Valued at US$592,000 involving the development of family and community medicine as well as supporting 12 visiting postgraduate teachers per year.

• University of Western Ontario : Application has been submitted to facilitate the faculty of Medicine in curriculum development, visiting staff and staff development valued at CAN$2, 952,000.

• KOICA : following a recent visit by a Korean delegation, UR has been promised a new US$5m ICT, telecommunication and electronic centre,

• Rockefeller Foundation : Grant of $250,000 received to support development of ICT based pedagogy and a new partnership with Strathmore University to develop a new Management Information Systems (MIS) based on open source software to better manage Academic Process, Registry, Human Resources and Financial Management.

• The Rwanda Initiative : The Rwanda Initiative is a partnership between Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communication and its counterpart at the University of Rwanda. The media capacity-building project has sent more than 130 Canadians from the journalism field to Rwanda to teach journalism, work as media interns or conduct training sessions with working journalists.
